This collection contains personal papers relating to Krawcheck's career as a reporter and columnist in Cleveland, Ohio, including research notes, records of interviews, memoranda, column mail, newspaper clippings and scrapbooks. Krawcheck, a commentary columnist and reporter for the Cleveland Press from 1941 to 1977, was born in Charleston, South Carolina. He attended the University of South Carolina for two years. In college, he was an avid saxophone player and jazz buff, which contributed to his coverage of jazz events during his journalism career. For over twenty five years, Vail oversaw the transition of the Plain Dealer from the city's runner up publication to the largest daily and Sunday newspaper in Ohio. Vail retired from the paper in 1992. Vail was also active in other interests such as the Cleveland Foundation, the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, and was the co-founder of Cleveland Tomorrow, an organization formed in 1982 to promote economic growth.
